The Braves desperately need to find a replacement for the suspended Jurickson Profar. While Profar will return in a few months, he’s also suspended for the postseason.
Robert would be the perfect, high-ceiling replacement. The star outfielder is the kind of guy who could post a 30 home run, 30 stolen base season at any time, and he’s under team control for a few more years.
In exchange for Robert, the Braves would need to give up Nacho Alvarez Jr., Drue Hackenberg, and Jose Perdomo.
Hackenberg is blocked within the Braves organization by a lot of talented pitching prospects. Atlanta is likely to trade some of its pitching prospects to add big league talent, and this is the kind of deal to do it in.
Perdomo hasn’t shown much in rookie ball yet because he’s still just 18 years old, but he has all the tools to eventually be a star.
Alvarez is the main loss here. He looks to be the replacement for Orlando Arcia down the road, but the White Sox are seemingly more interested in position player prospects than pitching prospects, so the Braves would need to trade him to land Robert.
The Braves need an outfielder and a deal like this could help turn their season around.
