The penultimate bowl matchup on Friday’s slate will pit Arizona against SMU in a Trust & Will Holiday Bowl clash that has all the potential to set off some fireworks. Each team boasts a single win apiece against the other, though this will be the first time they’ve met in more than 40 years.
The Wildcats moved mountains in 2025 and improved to a 9-3 record in the Big 12 under Brent Brennan, after only managing five fewer than the previous campaign. SMU has unsurprisingly failed to quite match the heights of its debut season in the ACC, meanwhile, and regressed to a still impressive 8-4 overall.
On paper, Arizona should have little trouble beating SMU for the second time in school history to take the Holiday Bowl at a canter. However, it’s around this time of year that opt-outs tend to spice things up, and the losses of Treydan Stukes, Genesis Smith, Michael Wooten, and Keyan Burnett could prove devastating.
That’s without mentioning that Brennan has already noted he expects more players to be unavailable, giving the Mustangs a few potential openings to make things more interesting at SnapDragon Stadium.
