The Cleveland Cavaliers kick off their 2025-26 campaign by traveling to Madison Square Garden to face the New York Knicks in the first game of the NBA regular season for both clubs.

The Cavs are coming off of one of their finest seasons in franchise history, winning 64 games, but ultimately losing in the Eastern Conference Semifinals to the Indiana Pacers. They return the bulk of their team, including stars Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, and Darius Garland, though Garland remains sidelined due to injury. Cleveland also brought Lonzo Ball, Larry Nance Jr, and Thomas Bryant to the club as they begin the season as one of the favorites to win the Eastern Conference.
Expectations are high for the Knicks, as evidenced by the firing of head coach Tom Thibodeau during the offseason. The regular rotation remains virtually the same, with veteran guard Jordan Clarkson arriving to bolster the bench. New York won 51 games last season, despite an ill-timed injury to Jalen Brunson, keeping him out for a 15-game stretch from early March into early April. The Knicks bowed out in six games in the Eastern Conference Finals, also losing to the Pacers.
