Seattle opened the season with winger Kaapo Kakko (hand) and defenseman Ryker Evans (upper body) on injured reserve.
Reilly Smith took advantage of a goaltending mistake, tapping the puck into a vacant net 1:24 into overtime as Vegas pulled out a 4-3 victory at the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night. Jack Eichel forced overtime when he scored with 1:34 left in regulation. Pavel Dorofeyev, coming off a hat trick in the Golden Knights’ opener, tied the game with his fourth tally of the season at 14:22 of the second while Brett Howden potted his first goal of the year at 8:09 of the first.
