Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm has a score to settle when his side faces Virginia Tech on Saturday in what will be the first time these teams have met in Blacksburg since 1991. Brohm was the starting quarterback for the Cardinals when they lost 43-13 at Lane Stadium 34 years ago, though he was watching from the sideline after fracturing his ankle several weeks prior.
He’s already returned the favor somewhat after beating the Hokies on home soil in 1992, not to mention leading his team to victory when the teams last clashed in 2023. But a win in Blacksburg this weekend would still represent a career first, and one that’s been decades in the making.
The quarterback-receiver combination of Miller Moss and Chris Bell will be crucial to Louisville’s chances, though it was running back Isaac Brown who carried the team to a clunky win over Boston College last time out. The Hokies, meanwhile, will be leaning on QB Kyron Drones to pick the lock against a Cardinals defense that’s been stingy at worst this season, while receiver Takye Heath is coming off the back of a two-touchdown performance in last week’s win over California.
