Memphis dropped its fourth straight game on Wednesday night, scoring the game’s first basket and never leading again in a 124-109 loss to the visiting Houston Rockets. Cam Spencer came off the bench for 19 points while Morant finished with 17 points, eight assists, and six turnovers on 6-of-19 shooting. Santi Aldama went for 16 points in the defeat. Morant, who was suspended for a game over the weekend for “detrimental conduct,” is averaging 20.0 points and 7.3 assists on .383/.140/.957 shooting splits.
Cooper Flagg’s runner clanked off the back of the rim with two seconds left as the Mavericks lost their third in a row on Wednesday night, falling to the visiting New Orleans Pelicans 101-99. Flagg, moved from point guard to small forward with D’Angelo Russell starting at the point for the first time this season, scored 20 points with three steals, while P.J. Washington finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Daniel Gafford also scored 15 points.
Anthony Davis (calf) has missed the last three games for Dallas, with Washington averaging 15.8 points and 8.6 rebounds, and Flagg getting 14.4 points per game. Russell puts up 13.0 points and 5.6 assists a night. Morant leads the Grizzlies in scoring and assists, with Jaren Jackson Jr. averaging 16.0 points and Aldama getting 11.6 points and 6.8 boards per game. Memphis is 0-1 in West Group B play, along with New Orleans, while the Los Angeles Lakers and LA Clippers are 1-0.
