On Saturday, the New York Mets bounced back from a 6-2 loss with a 3-2 win over the New York Yankees in their second game of the Subway series.
The Yankees got on the board first when DJ LeMahieu launched a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning. But the Mets answered immediately in the top of the fourth, as Pete Alonso tied the game with an RBI single.
Later that same inning, Juan Soto made a heads-up baserunning play by stealing third base, setting himself up to score on a Mark Vientos sacrifice fly, giving the Mets a 2-1 lead.
The Yankees responded in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run from Cody Bellinger, knotting the game at 2-2.
But the Mets would have the final word. In the top of the ninth, Francisco Lindor lifted a sacrifice fly to bring in the go-ahead run, sealing the 3-2 victory.
Looking ahead to Sunday, the Mets are set to start David Peterson, who’s been reliable this season with a 2-2 record and a 3.05 ERA. However, he’ll be facing a tall task in Max Fried, who enters the game with a perfect 6-0 record and a dominant 1.11 ERA. Fried has been lights out all year. Can the Mets find a way to crack him and take the series?
