The Edmonton Oilers upset the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 1 and have stolen away home ice advantage. Thursday night’s game from T-Mobile Arena has now turned into a must-win for the favored Golden Knights.
During the regular season, the Oilers’ top three in terms of points were center Leon Draisaitl (52G, 54A), center Connor McDavid (26G, 74A), and defenseman Evan Bouchard (14G, 53A). Game 1 of the series kept that trend, as each tallied two points en route to a 4-2 comeback win. Vegas started hot at home, scoring at 2:13 and then 9:03 of the first period, but the Oilers would have the last laugh, scoring once in the first and three times in the third period to steal the win.
Two early goals from Mark Stone (his third and fourth of the playoffs) seemed to have the Golden Knights on the fast track to an easy win, but the offensive firepower that had Vegas ranked No. 5 in the NHL in goals scored during the regular season faded away quickly. They would be outshot 28-17 for the game and lost the faceoff battle 33-19.
