Evgeni Malkin and Tommy Novak each finished with a goal and an assist, while Jack St. Ivany had a pair of helpers as Pittsburgh never trailed in the game. Malkin got the first goal of the game at the 7:49 mark of the first period before Egor Chinakhov made it 2-0 at 12:32 of the second. Bryan Rust and Novak added third-period markers.
Edmonton, playing without star Leon Draisaitl as he attends to a family illness in Germany, dropped a 2-1 decision to the visiting New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night and is 3-2-2 in its last seven games. All of the goals came in a span of 3:09 in the second period, with Matt Savoie tying the game for the Oilers at the 7:02 mark before the Devils got the go-ahead goal 90 seconds later.
The Oilers look to complete a season sweep of Pittsburgh after taking a 6-4 road win on Dec. 16. Connor McDavid leads Edmonton with 30 goals and shares the NHL lead with 85 points, while Zach Hyman has 19 goals. Tristan Jarry is 4-1-1 in six starts since coming from the Penguins in a December trade, with a shutout, a .904 save percentage, and 2.48 goals against average. Sidney Crosby leads the Pens with 26 goals and 56 points, while Rust has 18 tallies. Stuart Skinner is 6-4-0 since the trade with a .902 save percentage and 2.34 GAA.
