Despite a somewhat tumultuous start to the campaign, Real Madrid sits second in the La Liga table, trailing arch-rival Barcelona by just six points and with a game in hand. That means continued positive results will be necessary for Real Madrid to keep the pressure on La Blaugrana as the La Liga campaign continues to roll forward this weekend.
Most recently, Real Madrid took down Osasuna, a team that defeated Barcelona this season, by a dominant 4-0 score. Scoring in that matchup for Los Blancos was Vinicius Jr., who bagged a hat trick, and English star midfielder Jude Bellingham. Will the star duo continue that run of form going this weekend?
Leganes, meanwhile, has won two of its last three matches. First, on Oct. 30, Leganes defeated Ciudadad de Lucena 2-1. They followed that up by falling 4-3 against Girona in what was an exciting back-and-forth matchup. Leganes bounced back on Nov. 9 by defeating Sevilla 1-0 thanks to an 82nd-minute goal by Miguel de la Fuente, who found the back of the net from the penalty spot.
Despite both clubs boasting a combined history of over 200 years, Leganes and Real Madrid have only met 14 times before Sunday. Real Madrid has 10 victories in those 14 matches while Leganes has two. The two clubs have also drawn twice. The last time these clubs met was on July 19, 2020, a 2-2 draw that saw Sergio Ramos and Marco Asensio score for Madrid and Bryan Gil and Roger Assale score for Leganes.
