The fourth-ranked Montana Grizzlies (6-0) take a break from Big Sky Conference play this week to host the Sacred Heart Pioneers (5-2) at Washington-Grizzly Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Montana improved to 3-0 in the Big Sky with a come-from-behind 28-9 win over visiting Cal Poly last week. After trailing 9-0, the Grizzlies got on the board early in the second half when Kenzel Lawler returned an interception 21 yards for a touchdown. Montana took the lead early in the fourth on Keali’i Ah Yat’s 24-yard scoring pass to Michael Wortham before Eli Gillman ran for a pair of late scores. Gillman ran for 123 yards on 18 carries while Ah Yat finished 27-of-41 for 257 yards with a TD and a pick. 

Sacred Heart, one of two FCS independents, got back on the winning track last week with a 32-14 win over visiting Howard. The Pioneers erupted for 29 unanswered points in the second half after trailing 14-3 at the break. Mitchell Summers rambled for 250 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries, including an 80-yard score, while Jack Snyder threw for 147 yards and a TD while picking up 68 yards on the ground.

Saturday’s game marks the first-ever meeting between the programs.
