Internet Speechless as Man Brings Coyote Home: ‘Its Eyes Are Glowing’

A viral video of a man holding a coyote inside his home left viewers speechless with how comfortable he was with the wild animal.

In last week’s TikTok video posted to the account @ittybittyfarm1, a man named Tim McMechan walked into the house holding a coyote. The clip, which amassed over 11.3 million views, immediately raised eyebrows. He wanted to introduce the “new puppy” to the cat. Part of the text on the clip pointed out, “Its eyes are glowing,” as the camera’s flash enhanced the coyote’s eyes.

People wondered how he casually held the coyote, but McMechan’s partner, Melaina, told Newsweek via TikTok that he had raised this coyote named Weave since she was a puppy. Weave knows the drill and is comfortable with the rest of the animals the couple owns.

Weave, along with other puppies, were discovered after their mother was killed by hunters, Melaina explained. McMechan asked the hunters to raise her, which he did until she was old enough to go out on her own. He encouraged her to go out and find her own food. She would eat tomatoes he planted before she hunted for herself, but at that point, the bond was already formed.

“She went off on her own as she matured but other coyotes beat her up pretty badly so she returned to Tim,” Melaina said.

Weave lives outside but stays close to the house and McMechan. The coyote became part of the family as McMechan helped raise him with his dog named Duck. Now, the couple lives with two dogs, a cat, five ostriches and three mini donkeys on their small farm with Weave hanging out with them as much as possible.

“Weave is 4 years old now and has a special bond with Tim especially, but she welcomed me in,” Melaina said. “She is nervous around strangers but somehow knew I was an animal person and accepted me from day one.”

These animals they’ve brought together look out for each other. The dog protects Weave from other coyotes. Then Weave and the dog will care for and protect the cat.

“They all go on adventures together,” Melaina said. “Sometimes a few miles away but always return home.”

Viewer Reactions

Stunned by the interaction, viewers flooded the comment section of the TikTok clip, bringing in over 1.1 million likes and 4,479 comments as of Tuesday.

“How u managed to even pick it up is beyond me,” said one viewer.

Another joked: “That man has brought home way worse things than a coyote for the wife to be that chill about it.”

A third person pointed out: “The growl because she forgets she’s not supposed to like being held.”

Some worried about the cat’s safety, but the couple assured them that “the cat rules everyone.”
