Jalen Milroe Declares For NFL Draft: 5 Teams That Could Select Alabama QB
Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe is entering the 2025 NFL draft, he announced via Instagram on Thursday. Milroe spent the past two years as the Crimson Tide’s starting signal-caller and now heads to the pros with a polarizing skillset and upside that should appeal to NFL teams.
Milroe fits the mold of quarterbacks who can really wear out defenses with their legs, as evidenced by his 726 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns during the 2024 season. His passing technique is still a work in progress, but he has a powerful arm to push the ball vertically and outside the numbers.
Here are five teams that could be interested in drafting Milroe.
New York Jets
The Jets’ decision regarding quarterback this offseason remains to be seen, as it isn’t clear whether Aaron Rodgers will be back in New York. If they decide to move on from Rodgers, the Jets’ new head coach, who will be hired during the offseason, may feel Milroe’s upside is worth the investment, with a bridge quarterback playing ahead of him for the first couple of seasons.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders are currently projected to own the No. 8 overall selection after winning the past two games, likely pushing themselves out of contention to land Miami’s Cam Ward or Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. However, Antonio Pierce or whoever is the head coach for Las Vegas, could be sold on the physical tools of Milroe and sit him behind a veteran signal-caller.
Pittsburgh Steelers
Russell Wilson will be a free agent this offseason. But it would be wise of them to re-sign him and let him mentor someone like Milroe, just like he did with Justin Fields, who will also be a free agent. Like Milroe, Fields possesses the athleticism and mobility, traits that allowed him to thrive in offensive coordinator Arthur Smith’s run-heavy system early in the season when he was Pittsburgh’s starter.
Los Angeles Rams
Matthew Stafford isn’t getting any younger, set to be 37 next season. With only two more years remaining on his contract, this should be the time for the Rams to develop a succession plan. Learning from Stafford and playing for Sean McVay, who is a great quarterback developer, would be excellent for the development of Milroe before taking the reins in Los Angeles.
New Orleans Saints
Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener have not shown they’re capable of being franchise quarterbacks. The Saints will have Derek Carr for another season, which would be an ideal scenario to bring in a young signal-caller to learn from the veteran and eventually implement a system that can play to Milroe’s strengths.
