Jason Sudeikis Details Taylor Swift ‘SNL’ Fail in Front of Travis Kelce
Jason Sudeikis spoke out about Taylor Swift’s Saturday Night Live fail in front of boyfriend Travis Kelce on his podcast.
During Friday’s episode of New Heights, which the Kansas City Chiefs tight end co-hosts with brother Jason Kelce, the Ted Lasso star reflected on his favorite SNL sketches.
“I would say, during my time—and I’ve answered this before, but it’s the truth—my favorite to do was ‘What Up With That’ because it was a big cast sketch. It also was one that people started getting really excited about.”
“All of us are in it, we all know our function, we all know our role, everybody gets like a little highlight, a little spot here and there,” Sudeikis explained. “We eventually started getting insane cameos, whether it’d be Robin Williams or Robert De Niro or Samuel L. Jackson, someone who’s not going to say anything—is only there to be in the sketch, you know—and then wave goodnight and come to the after-party. That was just so fun.”
The comedian, 49, added that his “Two A-Holes” bit with Kristen Wiig was also “a blast,” as was the “Potato Chip” skit, which nearly featured Swift.

“[Will] Forte and I had a lot of fun things, we did a sketch called ‘Potato Chip.’ That very first time we did it was with Taylor when she hosted,” Sudeikis said.
“Nice, a young Taylor too,” Travis Kelce responded, referring to when the pop star hosted the comedy show in November 2009.
“But it didn’t make it to air. We ended up doing it with Blake Lively, she ended up getting it over the hump for us,” Sudeikis said of the It Ends With Us star, who hosted in December 2009. “They played it so differently, which is one of those neat things. And it’s like, it’s the silliest sketch in the world, it’s worth looking up.”
Newsweek reached out to Sudeikis’ representative via email for additional comment.
In the scene, Forte portrayed a NASA recruiter, Lively played Forte’s assistant and Sudeikis played a NASA interviewee. The meeting goes awry when Sudeikis gets scolded for stealing one of Forte’s 35 potato chips in a bowl on his desk.
Sudeikis previously spoke out about “Potato Chip” during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen in 2015. While chatting about an SNL sketch that made him “laugh the most,” the Virginia native referenced the piece.
“We did it with Blake Lively, and she was fantastic. First of all, we did it with Taylor Swift. Swiftie couldn’t get it over the goal line, but then Blake Lively brought it home.”
Through audience laughs, Sudeikis playfully said, “Ever since then, I’ve always viewed Taylor Swift as an absolute failure. I don’t know what she does right, but whatever it is, it’s certainly not skits.”
Swift and Kelce romance rumors first began swirling in July 2023 when he attended her Eras Tour show Kansas City, Missouri. After the “Cruel Summer” singer was spotted at handful of his NFL games, the couple went public with their relationship in October that same year at a Saturday Night Live after-party.
