Jayden Daniels Throws Miraculous Hail Mary to Defeat Caleb Williams and Bears
The Washington Commanders facing off against the Chicago Bears was one of the most highly-anticipated games of Week 8.
This game saw Caleb Williams, Chicago’s quarterback and the first overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, who won the Heisman Trophy for 2022, battle it out against Jayden Daniels, Washington’s quarterback and the second overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, who won the Heisman Trophy for 2023.

While most fans expected to see a game of young talents going head-to-head to prove their supremacy, they were instead given a game that didn’t see a touchdown scored until the second half and featured 12 punts in total.
However, the game truly came alive with one of the best endings to a football game so far this season.
After being shut out in the first half, the Bears scored two rushing touchdowns in the second, topping it off with a two-point conversion with less than 30 seconds in the game. This put Chicago up 15-12.
After being unable to get past the 50-yard line, Daniels had no choice but to throw as hard as he could into a tough Chicago defense.
The ball flew toward the end zone, bounced off a Bears defender’s helmet, and fell into the hands of wide receiver Noah Brown, resulting in the commentator screaming, “It’s a miracle!!!”
This was the only touchdown scored by the Commanders the entire game. Their previous 12 points had all been scored as field goals by kicker Austin Seibert, who went four-for-five.
In total, Daniels recorded 21 completions for 326 yards and one touchdown. Additionally, he rushed for 52 yards on eight attempts.
Brown had made three receptions for 73 yards and one touchdown. Other offensive standouts included tight end Zach Ertz, who made seven catches for 77 yards, and receiver Terry McLaurin, who made five catches for 125 yards.
Seibert made for the rest of Washington’s points, going four-for-five on field goals.
The Bears didn’t look so hot on the other side of the field.
While Pro Bowl running back D’Andre Swift had an excellent game, rushing for 129 yards and a touchdown on 18 attempts, the rest of the team was severely lacking.
Williams completed 10 out of 24 passes for only 131 yards. He also fumbled the football at an inopportune moment in the red zone.
The only other touchdown scored came from running back Roschon Johnson, who had otherwise rushed for six yards on two carries.

To put the statistics in perspective, Daniels threw for more yards than the total yards for the entire Bears team.
Needless to say, Daniels has officially made the case that he is the definitive Offensive Rookie of the Year.
