Jeremy Clarkson Makes Heartbreaking Admission After Emergency Heart Surgery
The iconic but controversial former host of Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson, has raised concerns about his life expectancy following a series of health complications.
During an interview with The Guardian, Clarkson explained:
“I don’t have long. I’ve probably only got what, 70,000 hours left, maybe?”
Clarkson’s most recent health ordeal began with symptoms while vacationing in the Indian Ocean. He reportedly experienced clamminess, chest tightness, and pins and needles in his left arm. These symptoms persisted, leading to his hospitalization at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford upon returning to the UK.
Medical professionals discovered one artery supplying blood to his heart was blocked, and another was nearly obstructed. A stent was inserted to clear the blockage, a procedure Clarkson described as “not particularly painful—just strange.”
Writing in his column for The Sunday Times, Clarkson explained:
“I was at the breakfast table and when I stood up to leave, I had to take a moment to make sure my limbs were working properly.
“It seems that of the arteries feeding my heart with nourishing blood, one was completely blocked and the second of three was heading that way.
“The question was this. Were the arteries so ruined that I’d need an emergency heart bypass?
“Or could he use Dyno-Rods and ultrasonic battering rams to loosen them up before inserting a stent?
“Mercifully, this turned out to be possible.”
He added:
“I was off to the operating theatre. Because my bankruptcy was most definitely just around the corner. Days away? ‘Maybe’, he (a doctor) said.”
Prior to this heart episode, Clarkson had sought healthier habits by attending an alcohol-free retreat in Portugal with his girlfriend, Lisa Hogan. The retreat’s rigorous juice diet, however, had an adverse effect, resulting in Clarkson becoming ill and hospitalized for an abscess on his back.
In addition to physical ailments, Clarkson has confided fears of developing dementia, partly due to an increase in hearing impairments. He noted how his brain compensates for missed speech, saying:
“My brain is having to use a huge amount of computing power trying to fill in the bits of speech it hasn’t been able to hear. Which is hard when it’s simultaneously trying to remember where I put my spectacles.”
Despite these health scares, Clarkson continues to engage with his professional endeavors. Filming for the fourth season of his Amazon show, Clarkson’s Farm, proceeds. Additionally, he maintains involvement in other projects, such as his pub, the Farmer’s Dog in Asthall, and television engagements, including “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” on ITV.
