Although Jets head coach Robert Saleh didn’t rule Reddick out for Monday Night Football, as the linebacker’s holdout continues it’s likely that he won’t play in the season opener.

“Really it’s going to be all dependent on how he looks, if and when he shows up,” Saleh told ESPN’s Rich Cimmi on Tuesday. “We’ll put him through some work with the training staff, see where he’s at, and then communicate with him and on what we can figure out.”

The Jets kick off the season against the San Francisco 49ers. Saleh basically said it would be a bonus whenever Reddick returned to the team.

“I mean, it’s like finding change in the couch, I guess, right?” Saleh said Tuesday with a laugh. “But, no, he’s a special football player. And when he gets here, when he eventually gets here, he’s only going to help us.”

Reddick, who was acquired in a trade on March 29, hasn’t made an appearance at the Jets’ facility since April 1.

The former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker was at the Jets facility for his news conference and physical but hasn’t returned since then making the situation an unusual holdout.

Reddick didn’t participate in any offseason activities or training camp practices. Although he’s accumulated $2.05 million in mandatory fines, it hasn’t motivated the linebacker to get a deal finalized.

It’s evident that Reddick is adamant about getting compensation he deems sufficient, but as the countdown dwindles to the season opener, he will have little time to build any sort of rapport or chemistry with his new teammates.

The contract saga looked as though it was going in a trade direction on Aug. 12 when reports surfaced that the linebacker requested a trade. The Jets announced that they had no plans to trade Reddick, a player New York gave up a 2026 conditional third-round pick to acquire his contract.

The Jets put their foot down further when general manager Joe Douglas stated that he wouldn’t negotiate with Reddick’s agent until the linebacker reported to the team.

That has yet to happen.

Reddick was slated to join Quinnen Williams, Javon Kinlaw, and Jermaine Johnson as the starting front four; however, as of now, the Jets won’t have a key offseason addition against the 49ers.
