Jets Offense Takes Hit Prior to Week 7 Against Panthers

The struggling 0-6 New York Jets will be without their top receiver on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Garrett Wilson is dealing with a knee injury that will hold him out of practice on Friday as well as sideline him Sunday. The team is hopeful Wilson will be able to return in Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Despite New York being 0-6, Wilson is actually having an extremely solid start to the season. His 36 receptions rank ninth in the NFL and his 395 yards rank 13th. Wilson has also added four touchdowns, tying him for the seventh most in the league. The fourth-year receiver out of Ohio State has been a lone bright spot for a dormant offense.

With the absence of Wilson on Sunday, quarterback Justin Fields will be throwing to a receiving corps that has been lackluster so far this season. Behind Wilson, Josh Reynolds has the most yards from a wide receiver with just 72 yards in four games. The rest of the receivers as a whole have combined for just 183 yards through six weeks.

An already struggling offense appears to be in line for another disappointing performance Sunday that could lead to a seventh straight loss to begin the season. The receiving group will need to step up in order to prevent an 0-7 start for the first time since the 2020 season.
