Jets QB Justin Fields Doesn’t Hold Back About His NFL Future
The 2025 NFL season is a big one for New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields. After a slow start to his career, he is being given another shot to be a franchise quarterback.
To begin his career, Fields played for the Chicago Bears and was the No. 11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Despite showing flashes of major potential during his stint with the Bears, he could not figure out the consistency side of things.
Following his first three seasons, Chicago decided to move in a different direction with Caleb Williams. That led to the Pittsburgh Steelers swooping in and acquiring him in a trade.

Fields started the 2024 NFL season as the starting quarterback due to Russell Wilson’s injury. He played well last year, completing 65.8 percent of his passes for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns, and an interception in six starts. He also ran for 289 yards and five more scores.

At 26 years old, Fields is the clear-cut starting quarterback for the Jets. He was given a two-year, $40 million contract in free agency and is looking to make the most of his new opportunity.
Prior to his first season in New York, Fields spoke out boldly about his NFL future. He has set big goals for himself with the Jets.
“I think I can be great,” Fields said. “That’s been the goal for me my whole life, my whole career. I think the sky’s the limit for this team, for this offense, but we do have a long way to go.”
He continued on, opening up more about the state of the team. There is work to be done, but the talent is there for New York to become a dangerous team.

“Our offense and defense are new, so guys are really tuned in and locked in and trying to get everything down,” Fields said. “But I think once we do, I think the sky’s the limit. I mean, we have all the guys we need, we have all the talent, so it’s really just going to come down to discipline and execution.”
Most of what the Jets want to do offensively will depend on Fields. If he can play like a true franchise quarterback, New York could be a very competitive football team.
It will be interesting to see what the 2025 season has in store for Fields. There is no question that he has the talent to be an NFL starting quarterback, but now it’s time to prove it consistently on the field.
