JJ McCarthy-Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan Reunion After ‘TNF’ Has Fans Talking
The Los Angeles Chargers put on a dominant performance on “Thursday Night Football,” defeating the Minnesota Vikings 37-10 to improve to 5-3.
The Vikings, meanwhile, fell to 3-4, losing their second consecutive game, and third overall since Carson Wentz took over as their starting quarterback.
Following the game, attention shifted to the postgame interaction between Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy, who remains sidelined with an ankle injury, and Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Harbaugh coached McCarthy at Michigan during his final college season, and the two won a national championship together in 2023. They both moved on to the NFL that same year — McCarthy was drafted in the first round by Minnesota, while Harbaugh took the Chargers’ head coaching job.
NFL on Prime Video posted a video of McCarthy and Harbaugh meeting up after the final whistle.

The postgame embrace caught the attention of Michigan fans, who shared some pretty strong reactions to the touching reunion.
“This is what I wanted to see. Wish there was sound,” a fan said.
Someone else added: “Wholesome reunion, love to see it.”
Another person wrote: Means everything to me.”
“Simply known as national champions,” a fan shared.
One more fan commented: “This was a great moment!”

McCarthy spent three seasons at Michigan, where he played under Harbaugh, going 27-1 as the Wolverines’ starter, was named Big Ten Quarterback of the Year (2023) and Rose Bowl Offensive MVP (2024), was a first-team All-Big Ten selection (2023), a second-team All-Big Ten selection (2002) and won a national title.
Over his college career, McCarthy completed 67.6% of his passes for 6,226 yards, 49 touchdowns, and just 11 interceptions. He also added 10 rushing touchdowns and led the Wolverines to an undefeated junior season, culminating in a national championship victory over the Washington Huskies.
