Joe Biden and Donald Trump’s Very Different Father’s Day Messages
President Joe Biden and his political rival, former President Donald Trump, the presumptive GOP 2024 presidential nominee, celebrated Father’s Day in two very different social media messages on Sunday.
“Happy Father’s Day to all the dads, pops, and father figures who have shown us guidance, encouragement, and unconditional love,” Biden wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday morning.
Biden has fathered four children, three with his first wife, Neilia Hunter Biden, and one with his second, first lady Jill Biden. His firstborn daughter and third child, Naomi, died in a car crash when she was 1-years-old along with her mother Neilia in 1972. Over four decades later, Biden lost his 46-year-old firstborn Joseph, who went by Beau, to brain cancer in May 2015. Biden’s two surviving children are Hunter, 54, who is from his first marriage, and Ashley, 43, from his second.
Hunter Biden has been thrown into the spotlight ever since House Republicans began investigating the Biden family over a year ago in an attempt to impeach President Biden. GOP lawmakers claim that Biden was involved with and benefited from his son’s foreign business dealings. There is no concrete evidence to back up these claims, claims which the White House denies, and Biden has rebuked the investigation calling it a “baseless political stunt.”
Last week, a Delaware jury found Hunter Biden guilty on three felony counts for lying about his drug use on a federal background check form when he bought a handgun in October 2018 and possessing the gun while addicted to, or using, illegal drugs.
“Jill and I love our son, and we are so proud of the man he is today,” President Biden said in reaction to the verdict. “So many families who have had loved ones battle addiction understand the feeling of pride seeing someone you love come out the other side and be so strong and resilient in recovery. As I also said last week, I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal.”
Trump’s Message to ‘Radical Left Degenerates’
Trump’s Father’s Day message was in stark contrast to that of Biden’s, which he used as an opportunity to lash out at his political rivals.
In all-caps, Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, Sunday afternoon: “Happy Father’s Day to all, including the radical left degenerates that are rapidly bringing the United States of America into third world nation status with their many attempts at trying to influence our sacred court system into breaking to their very sick and dangerous will. We need strength and loyalty to our country, and this wonderful constitution. Everything will be on full display come November 5th, 2024 – the most important day in the history of our country. Make America Great Again!!!”
Newsweek reached out to Trump’s campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, and Biden’s campaign spokesperson, James Singer, via email for comment.
Trump was found guilty last month on 34 counts of falsifying business records to hide hush money paid to adult-film actress Stormy Daniels shortly before the 2016 presidential election. Daniels alleged she had a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006, which he denies. The former president has maintained his innocence, and his legal team intends to appeal the verdict.
The former president still faces three criminal indictments, two of which involve election interference claims and one in which Trump is accused of mishandling classified documents and obstructing the government’s efforts to retrieve them. Trump has pleaded not guilty to the charges in all cases. He also was found liable in a New York civil fraud case and two defamation lawsuits involving sexual abuse. He maintains his innocence in these cases as well and has appealed them.
Trump and his allies claim that the cases against him are part of a Democratic plot to interfere with the upcoming election with the hope of tipping the scales in Biden’s favor. There is no evidence to support these claims or that Biden has anything to do with the prosecution of Trump.
The former president has three children with his late first wife Ivana Trump—Donald Jr., 46, Ivanka, 42, and Eric, 40. He also has a 30-year-old daughter, Tiffany, from his second marriage to Marla Maples, and an 18-year-old son, Barron, with his current wife, former first lady Melania Trump.
In 2021, Trump made a similar Father’s Day message to “the Radical Left.”
“Happy Father’s Day to all, including the Radical Left, RINOs [Republican in name only], and other Losers of the world. Hopefully, eventually, everyone will come together!” Trump wrote at the time in an emailed statement to his supporters.
Former Representative Adam Kinzinger, an Illinois Republican and frequent Trump critic, shared Trump’s 2021 message on X on Sunday and wrote, “RINOs. I feel included and noticed! Thanks! Allow me to repay, Happy Father’s Day including the small whiney odorous fatso felon former presidents!”
