“The Vikings are mourning the loss of Ring of Honor Safety Joey Browner,” the team said in a post on X. “Browner, a 6-time Pro Bowler and 4-time 1st Team All-Pro, was named to the NFL 1980s All-Decade Team and a part of the 50 Greatest Vikings announced in 2010.”
Browner recorded 37 interceptions for 465 yards from 1983-92, playing all but the last season of his career in Minnesota.
A first-round draft pick (19th overall) by the Vikings out of the University of Southern California, Browner is currently under consideration for his alma mater’s Hall of Fame class. The inductees are scheduled to be announced later this year.

“We’ve lost a great friend and one of the best Vikings teammates,” former Vikings teammate Steve Jordan said of Browner. “God blessed Joey with phenomenal talent and a big heart to love people and be a beacon of positivity. Truly, he will be missed.”
