It’s been nearly two years since USA gymnast Jordan Chiles was stripped of her Olympic bronze medal from the 2024 Paris Olympics in the floor exercise.
The incident was one of the biggest sports controversies in recent memory, and it had many fans up in arms over the injustice they believed Chiles had suffered at the hands of the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
The UCLA gymnast filed multiple appeals with Swiss Federal Supreme Court that included video evidence that she had filed her score inquiry within the time limit after her routine ended that jumped her above Romania’s Ana Barbosu and Sabrina Voinea that bumped her from fifth place to third place.
Barbosu was ultimately awarded third place and the bronze medal, but that may be about to change according to a recent admission from Chiles herself.

“On Jan. 23, the Swiss Federal Supreme Court agreed that a key piece of evidence was not, and must, be considered: the video that we believe demonstrates that we made our challenge within the necessary time frame. I rightfully earned my spot on the podium that day,” Chiles told Time Magazine.
“When the Swiss Federal Supreme Court ruled in my favor to consider the video footage, I felt something I had not felt in a long time: relief, validation, and a quiet sense of peace. Not because the journey is over, but because for the first time, the system acknowledged what I have been saying all along. That athletes deserve fairness. We deserve due process. We deserve to be heard.”

Chiles admitted last year that she was still in possession of the bronze medal, clarifying that the International Olympic Committee never actually took it from her.
If the SFSC has agreed to allow the video evidence Chiles submitted in her appeal to be used to determine the actual 3-5 rankings, then there’s a good chance Chiles will be moved back to third place and acknowledged as the rightful bronze-medal winner.
