Jordan Spieth Draws Attention at Masters After Wild Shot Hits Patron
Former Green Jacket winner Jordan Spieth hit a surprising shot during his second round of The Masters, with a patron inadvertently becoming involved in the play.
Spieth is attempting to win his second Masters, with his previous win coming just over 10 years ago. As of this report, it seems he’ll make the cut, and part of that may be thanks to the way his shot bounced off the patron.
The surprising moment happened on the par-4 ninth right after Spieth teed off his shot, with one commentator immediately expressing doubt over the ball finding the fairway. It did, but only after it hit a nearby spectator to help it get there.
After Spieth teed off with his shot, on-screen data showed that he’d hit the ball at a speed of 174 miles per hour, but it clearly veered off to the side and appeared to be going into the trees. It might’ve been disastrous had it not deflected off someone just right.

Based on video footage and commentary, the ball may have banked off the patron’s hand and bounced in the right direction onto the fairway.
“What a bounce. I think that hit that Patron’s hand,” the commentator says as they saw Spieth’s shot work out in his favor.
Moments later, Spieth followed up on the incident by going over to check on the man and gave him a signed glove for getting hit. Not a bad souvenir for the spectator, as he enjoyed golf on another beautiful day at Augusta National.
Various commenters on X also appreciated the act of kindness, while some joked about how the patron helped Spieth save par on that hole in the second round.
“It would be an honor to be a bank shot at the Masters!” one commenter said of Spieth’s wild shot.
“That signed glove probably had a little folding money in it. Spieth buying some drinks for that guy and his buddies,” a commenter joked, since the shot went in Spieth’s favor.
“Classy gesture, hopefully the glove doesn’t end up on eBay,” another commenter said.
Spieth finished even on the day and overall. Unfortunately, he remains in a tie for 21st on the Masters leaderboard along with several other golfers. He won the event for his first and only time in 2015.
He’s come close to another victory within the past five years, finishing in a tie for third in 2021 and a tie for fourth in 2023. However, he might need more luck on his side if he wants to climb the leaderboard further and contend with the likes of Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose at the top.
