Judge Temporarily Halts Donald Trump’s Plan to Push Out Federal Workers
On Thursday, a federal judge blocked President Donald Trump’s initiative to incentivize federal employees to leave by offering them financial incentives. This ruling came just hours before the midnight deadline for workers to apply for the deferred resignation program, widely known as a buyout.
U.S. District Judge George O’Toole Jr. in Boston did not comment on the legality of the program. He scheduled a hearing for Monday at 2 p.m. and instructed administration officials to extend the application deadline for the program until after the hearing.
Multiple labor unions have filed lawsuits against Trump’s plans, which were devised by Elon Musk, a top adviser. Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and the Republican president aims to downsize and reshape the federal workforce.
More to follow.
