Julia Roberts Shares Rare Throwback Photo of Son Henry
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Julia Roberts took a nostalgic dip into her photo archives this week, surfacing with a precious snapshot of her son Henry as a baby to mark his 17th birthday.
The actress, 56, renowned for her roles in hits like Pretty Woman and also mother to 19-year-old twins Hazel and Phinneas, shared the throwback on her X (formerly known as Twitter) account, delighting fans with a rare glimpse into her family life.
“Incredible that this baby is now a towering 17-year-old wonder! Happy Birthday beautiful Henry,” wrote the Notting Hill star. The photo captures a younger Roberts, her iconic smile wide as she cradles her then-infant son, both radiating joy.
While Roberts typically keeps her personal life away from the public eye, she occasionally opens up her family album for special moments like these.
“For us, we just had sort of simple rules where we had a charging station, where everybody’s phone goes when you get home,” Roberts — who married cinematographer Daniel Moder in 2002 — told Today’s Hoda Kotb in December. “There’s no phones at the table, certainly.”
Even with her twins off to college, Roberts’ parenting hasn’t wavered. “I parent them the same way out of the house that I parent them in the house,” the Runaway Bride actress shared with the publication, “which is, you know, ‘Are you getting enough sleep?’ And, ‘You sound like you’re sick.’ And ‘Are you drinking tea?’ And ‘Text me when you get home, [so] I can see that you’re home safe and sound.”
Roberts continued, “And I have an immense amount of appreciation for both of my older kids because they still allow me to be the same mom to them and it’s not eye-rolling. There’s a huge amount of understanding.”
The mother of three also touched on how the family dynamic has shifted at home on The Tonight Show last year. With her eldest away, Henry enjoys more space but misses his siblings equally, a balance Roberts describes as “a good 50/50 split.”
