Kalen DeBoer Receives Clear Message From Alabama AD Amid Michigan Rumors
While Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide are gearing up for a College Football Playoff run beginning this coming week on Friday night when they take on the Oklahoma Sooners, DeBoer remains of the more rumored candidates for the Michigan head coaching vacancy.
Those rumors, however, don’t seem to mean much to DeBoer who issued a statement on Sunday making it very clear that he is happy in Tuscaloosa, currently in his second season with the program.
“My family and I are very happy in Tuscaloosa and remain extremely grateful for the support of President (Peter) Mohler, (athletic director) Greg Byrne, the Board (of Regents) and so many others,” DeBoer’s statement read. “We have an incredible opportunity in front of us, so my sole focus is on Alabama football and our preparations to play Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff.
“I have not spoken and have no interest in speaking with anyone else about any other job. I am fully committed to this program and look forward to continuing as the head football coach at the University of Alabama.”

Shortly after DeBoer released his statement, he received a strong message of support from Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne, who made it clear the program is fully behind its current head coach.
“We are proud to have Coach DeBoer leading our football program at The University of Alabama,” Byrne posted. “He is an incredible coach and does an excellent job with the development of our student-athletes, both on and off the field. Just as he is committed to this team, we are committed to him, and we look forward to taking the field Friday in the first round of the College Football Playoff.”
With inconsistency plaguing Alabama during DeBoer’s first two seasons—missing the playoffs last year and already suffering three losses this season—some believe his future in Tuscaloosa could hinge on a win Friday night against Oklahoma, a team the Crimson Tide lost to earlier this year.
