Kansas City Chiefs Already Linked to Potential RB Trade
🎙️ Voice is AI-generated. Inconsistencies may occur.
The Kansas City Chiefs have not relied a whole lot on running backs throughout their magnificent six-year run that has included three Super Bowl wins and five Super Bowl appearances, but after watching the Philadelphia Eagles romp their way to a championship behind Saquon Barkley last season, their philosophy may have changed.
You would never know it based on the Chiefs’ current roster, as their running back room looks very similar to last year’s. Kansas City will still be employing Isiah Pacheco as its featured back (hopefully he stays healthy this time around), Kareem Hunt remains the primary backup, and then even reunited with Clyde Edwards-Helaire.

However, there is still a chance that the Chiefs add another piece to their backfield relatively soon, and ESPN’s Dan Graziano seems to expect it.
“The Chiefs could use a third-down back with some pass protection ability and will be looking at trade and waiver possibilities as rosters get tinkered with ahead of Week 1,” Graziano wrote.

Of course, the question is, what impact halfbacks could be available for Kansas City to add right now? Is it possible that the Chiefs may have to wait until the trade deadline in order to find a real solution?
Whatever the case may be, Kansas City should be active in looking for another running back. Yes, the Chiefs did add Elijah Mitchell in free agency, but he missed all of last season due to injury, and he also did not have a very good year with the San Francisco 49ers in 2023.

If Pacheco gets injured again (he played in just seven games in 2024), Kansas City could find itself in serious trouble when it comes to its backfield situation, which would make things that much tougher on Patrick Mahomes. Especially without Rashee Rice for the first six games.
