Kansas City Chiefs Take Wide Receiver Matthew Golden in Latest NFL Mock Draft

The Kansas City Chiefs have had an interesting offseason so far. After failing to win their third straight Super Bowl, things seemed a bit glum, but some decent moves have been made by the team so far.

However, the NFL draft may be a turning point for the Chiefs as to whether they return to the Super Bowl next year or not.

With their first round pick, the team has multiple needs they could address, mainly on the offensive and defensive lines.

However, the team could also make a more exciting pick if certain players fell to them.

In the latest mock draft on Yahoo Sports from Nate Tice and Charles McDonald, they have the Chiefs taking combine standout wide receiver Matthew Golden out of Texas.

Golden seems like the most balanced receiver in terms of athleticism and route-running, but also didn’t produce huge numbers during his time at Texas.

Interestingly, the Chiefs took a wide receiver out of Texas in the first round of last year’s draft in Xavier Worthy, which worked out extremely well for them.

That could mean taking another Texas receiver early in the draft would make a lot of sense, and form a prolific receiving core of Worthy, Golden, and Rashee Rice.

With Travis Kelce nearing retirement, adding more weapons for Patrick Mahomes to throw team may be a more pressing need than people realize.

When the Chiefs had Tyreek Hill, speed was a huge part of their success, and is something they’ve struggled to replicate ever since he was traded to the Miami Dolphins.

Worthy was a start to replacing that speed, but Golden would help bring the offense to another level, and provide Mahomes with great speed and dynamic route-running on both sides of the field.

Rice, a second-round pick the year prior, would make for a great option out of the slot to complement Kelce over the middle.

The Chiefs have made some smaller moves to shore up the offensive line and secondary but could make a big splash in the draft by adding an exciting receiver prospect.

After a disappointing loss in the Super Bowl, Chiefs fans would have something to make them extra excited again for next season.

The offense struggled at times last year which shone brightly in the biggest game, but this addition would allow the offense to thrive once more, just like it did in previous Super Bowl seasons.
