Kristi Noem Reacts to Tricia McLaughlin DHS Exit: ‘Sad to See Her Leave’

Tricia McLaughlin, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) assistant secretary for public affairs, is leaving the agency, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed in a post on X Tuesday.

McLaughlin has been in her role since January 2025 and has most recently been defending the immigration policies of the Trump administration.

“Tricia McLaughlin has served with exceptional dedication, tenacity, and professionalism as Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security,” Noem said in her post.

“She has played an instrumental role in advancing our mission to secure the homeland and keep Americans safe, she continued, adding, “While we are sad to see her leave, we are grateful for her service and wish Tricia nothing but success.”

McLaughlin started planning to leave the agency in December, but delayed her departure amid the aftermath of the Renee Good and Alex Pretti shootings, DHS officials told Newsweek in a statement Tuesday.
