Kyle MacLachlan on Which Celeb Selfie He’ll Recreate Next

Kyle MacLachlan has hinted at which celebrity selfie he’ll recreate next, after cracking the internet up with his recent take on Lorde’s Instagram photos.

The Twin Peaks star went viral in January after parodying the singer’s poses, with the 27-year-old left “speechless” by the results.

When asked which famous face he might spoof next, MacLachlan told Newsweek that he is “waiting for inspiration.”

“This is a mystery,” he said. “Who do you think I should do?”

The 65-year-old was receptive to Newsweek’s suggestion of a Dolly Parton or Beyoncé tribute, in honor of the latter’s new country album and cover of Parton’s “Jolene.”

“I saw Dolly Parton,” MacLachlan said. “It was an iHeartRadio event. Ohh my gosh, she’s amazing. I’d never seen her in person, [performing] live before.”

‘Imitation Is the Sincerest Form of Flattery’

In January, Lorde shared snaps of herself wearing an oversized shirt and headphones to Instagram, with the post hinting at plans for new music. The “Royals” singer has kept a low profile in recent years, with her last album, Solar Power, released in 2021.

In the first pic, the Grammy winner gazed into the camera with a sultry stare. In the second image, taken from above, the pop star sat on a wooden floor with her legs stretched out in front of her.

“Listening to myself,” the 27-year-old captioned the post, with MacLachlan quickly throwing together his own version.

Donning a striped shirt and his own gigantic headphones, the Blue Velvet star glared at the camera for one shot, before getting down on the floor to recreate the awkward angle in Lorde’s second selfie.

“Listening to myself,” he wrote alongside the photos, in case any fans couldn’t guess which celeb he was spoofing.

A stunned Lorde commented on MacLachlan’s tribute, writing: “I am…speechless Kyle!” She later added the snaps to her Instagram Story with the caption: “O KAY Kyle!”

MacLachlan was shocked by the internet’s response to the photos, telling Today atthe time: “It just kind of exploded in a way that I didn’t expect.”

“[Lorde] was very funny and gracious,” he said. “I think she got that it was a fun thing that was not meant to mock or take the p*** out of it at all.

“It was kind of an … appreciation post? Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.”

Lorde wasn’t the only one to fawn over MacLachlan. The actor was confused when the internet said he was in his “babygirl” era, until he realized it was a compliment.

“[I was] initially sort of offended, to be honest,” MacLachlan said during a SXSW panel in March.

“I worked so hard to be strong, masculine,” he joked. “But then I learned it was actually a high compliment.”

The Golden Globe winner’s latest project is the TV adaptation of game publisher Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic series Fallout.

Released on Amazon Prime on April 11, the show follows citizens attempting to survive following a nuclear catastrophe and also features Yellowjackets star Ella Purnell, Righteous Gemstones actor Walton Goggins and Emancipation’s Aaron Clifton Moten.
