Lane Kiffin Sends Message to Patrick Mahomes After Season-Ending Injury

The football world was taken aback on Sunday when Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes went down late in the fourth quarter with an apparent left knee injury.

After being helped to the locker room, it was later revealed that Mahomes had suffered a torn ACL—an injury that will end his 2025–26 season and likely lead to a lengthy recovery that could extend into next year as well.

“Don’t know why this had to happen,” Mahomes posted on Sunday. “And not going to lie, it hurts. But all we can do now is trust in God and attack every single day over and over again. Thank you, Chiefs Kingdom, for always supporting me and for everyone who has reached out and sent prayers. I will be back stronger than ever.”

On Monday morning, Mahomes’ message drew a response from new LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin, who retweeted the post with a praying hands emoji, showing his support for one of the biggest figures in all of sports.

Kiffin wasn’t the only prominent figure in football to show his support for Mahomes.

“WE LOVE YOU, MAN,” Pat McAfee commented. “GODSPEED.”

“The best is yet to come for you, brother. Can’t wait to see how you respond,” former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III shared.

“You are him and will forever be him,” former collegiate and NFL wide receiver Dez Bryant said. “I’m proud to say we’re from the same neck of the woods. If I don’t know anything, I know what the game means to you. Minor setback for a major comeback. This will only make you more confident and stronger than you are today. #BeastTexas Rest up—you deserve it, 15!”

Mahomes’ injury came alongside a Chiefs loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, officially eliminating them from postseason contention for the first time in the Mahomes era since he was drafted out of Texas Tech in 2017.
