Lane Kiffin Warning Issued by College Football Insider

The Lane Kiffin sweepstakes continues to roll on as a meeting with Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter loom on Nov. 28.

Ahead of the Rebels’ contest against in-state rival Mississippi State, a report emerged suggesting LSU had a $90 million offer on the table for the coveted head coach. Not long later, new reports revealed both Florida and Ole Miss were ready to match the offer from the Tigers, who appeared to be in the lead for Kiffin’s services.

“While it is unlikely there will be definitive clarity before next Saturday, numerous sources with knowledge of the situation have told CBS Sports in the last 24 hours that they believe the momentum has shifted in LSU’s favor to land the talented head coach. To be clear, that does not mean it’s a done deal,” a report from CBS Sports said.

LSU may have been seen as the frontrunner, but college football insider Josh Pate is offering a word of caution.

During his latest “Josh Pate’s College Football Show”, the insider hinted that the Florida Gators aren’t quite out of the race – even though the headlines all point to LSU.

“The one thing I’ll say about Florida is I know there only seems to be a fraction of the noise coming out of Florida that there is LSU. That may be because he ends up signing with LSU. I would just caution you: do not confuse silence with inaction. Sometimes there’s a lot going on behind the scenes and it’s just buttoned up pretty tight. So I don’t take the relative silence out of Gainesville compared to Baton Rouge to mean Florida’s just cooked here,” Pate said.

“I know a lot of the reporting is that Florida is a distant third and this and that. I still think they’ve got a shot. That’s all I’m saying. Not a leader in the clubhouse, nothing like that. I’m not making a pick, I’m just saying I still think they’re in it. I think he could stay at Ole Miss. I absolutely think he could go to LSU.”

Not long after the show, Pate took to social media to reveal he does, in fact, know where Kiffin will be coaching in 2026. “I know where Lane will be in 2026. All I can say is WOW,” he teased.

Kiffin and the Rebels will first have to take down the Bulldogs in Starkville to clinch a College Football Playoff spot.
