Legacy Motor Club Confirms Immediate Replacement Of Key Team Member

Legacy Motor Club, co-owned by NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson, has confirmed that it has parted ways with crew chief Dave Elenz. After serving as the crew chief for the No. 43 team for three seasons, Elenz will no longer be part of Legacy Motor Club’s efforts to turn around an undeniably challenging 2024 season.

The team has swiftly restructured their crew chief assignments. Ben Beshore, who previously helmed John Hunter Nemechek’s No. 42 team, has been reassigned to lead Erik Jones’s No. 43 team. Alongside him, Brian Campe has been introduced as the interim crew chief for Nemechek, starting immediately with the upcoming race at Charlotte this weekend.

The team shared to social media:

“‘LEGACY M.C and Dave Elenz have parted weay, and the organization would like to thank Dave for his stewardship of the No.43 over the past three seasons.’

“In continuation of the competition realignment, Ben Beshore will move to the No. 43 team as crew chief for Erik Jones. Newly appointed Technical Director, Brian Campe, will serve as interim crew chief for the No. 42 of John Hunter Nemechek effective this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.”

These changes come amid a difficult season for Legacy Motor Club. With just five races left in the calendar, Erik Jones ranks 30th in the standings, boasting two top 10 finishes. Meanwhile, Nemechek trails at 34th, albeit with three top 10 finishes to his name.

Jones recently achieved a season-best P5 finish at Talladega. Reflecting on this result, Jones shared:

“Yeah, we had an OK car. We lacked in speed, but it drove good.

“Kind of lucked out in that last wreck there. Felt like the damage wasn’t bad enough that we needed to come in [to the pits]. Happy to get a good run. We’ve just had a rough year and struggled last two weeks, so it’s nice to finish up front.”

Campe comes aboard with notable experience, having spent three years alongside Hendrick Motorsports. Commenting on his new responsibilities as Technical Director, Campe explained in a press release from the team:

“I’m super excited to join LEGACY MOTOR CLUB and am looking forward to the opportunity and challenge ahead.

“I believe in the vision for LEGACY M.C. and hope to help build on the talent that is already in place and bring my experience to the organization so we can compete for wins at NASCAR’s highest level.”

As they continue racing through the dwindling stages of the 2024 season, the team will be hoping the change will set them up for a strong comeback in 2025.
