Lip Reader Reveals What Demi Moore Said When Mikey Madison Won Oscar 2025
At the 2025 Academy Awards, Demi Moore, 62, was widely anticipated to win Best Actress for her role in The Substance, having secured major accolades throughout the awards season, including a Golden Globe. However, in a surprising turn, 25-year-old Mikey Madison clinched the Oscar for her performance in Anora. Cameras captured Moore’s immediate reaction, showing what appeared to be visible disappointment before she applauded Madison’s victory.
Lip reader Nicola Hickling told DailyMail.com that Moore appeared to say “nice” after the announcement, though she did not smile while saying it. According to Hickling, her body language suggested she was nodding slightly, as if making an effort to appear composed.
Moore had been up against Mikey Madison, Fernanda Torres, Karla Sofia Gascon, and Cynthia Erivo for the Best Actress award.
While Madison’s win was celebrated by many, a number of Moore’s fans were disappointed by the outcome and took to X, formerly Twitter, to express their frustration over her loss.
One user said: “My heart broke as much as Demi Moore’s did when she didn’t hear her name. This was her year for sure.”

Others compared it to Moore’s Oscar nominated film.
“Demi Moore losing to Mikey Madison is basically the plot of The Substance,” Paolo Uggetti, a staff writer for ESPN, wrote. The post has been viewed over 1.9 million times and received 126,000 likes.
Despite the disapointment of not winning an Oscar, Moore fans were full of praise the actress, noting her youthful looks at the age of 62.
One X user said: “Demi Moore is literally ageing backwards.”
Another fan said: “Whoever did Demi Moore’s corrective aesthetic work deserves an award. Honestly. Stunning. Aging in reverse.”
Who Won at the 2025 Oscars?
Mikey Madison, at 25, won Best Actress for her role in Anora, becoming one of the youngest recipients in this category. Her portrayal of a sex worker garnered critical acclaim, and in her emotional acceptance speech, she honored the sex worker community, pledging continued support.

Anora emerged as the night’s standout, clinching five Oscars, including Best Picture. Director Sean Baker made history by securing four awards in a single evening: Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing, in addition to the film’s top honor.
Other notable winners included Adrien Brody, who secured Best Actor for his performance in The Brutalist.
Zoe Saldaña earned Best Supporting Actress for her role in Emilia Pérez, while Kieran Culkin took home Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain.
The ceremony also highlighted significant achievements in technical categories: Wicked won Best Costume Design, with Paul Tazewell making history as the first Black man to receive this accolade.
Despite multiple nominations, Diane Warren continued her Oscars losing streak in the Best Original Song category.
The event also honored industry legends such as Juliet Taylor, Quincy Jones, Richard Curtis, Barbara Broccoli, and Michael G. Wilson for their contributions to cinema.
Additionally, Godzilla Minus One won Best Visual Effects, while The Zone of Interest secured Best International Feature Film.
