MAGA Reacts As Donald Trump Cuts Ties WIth Marjorie Taylor Greene
A major rift opened in the MAGA world this week after Donald Trump formally broke with Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, one of his most vocal supporters.
In a post on Truth Social on Friday, Trump said he was withdrawing his endorsement of Representative Greene. “I am withdrawing my support and endorsement of ‘Congresswoman’ Marjorie Taylor Greene, of the great state of Georgia,” he wrote.
He also vowed “Complete and Unyielding Support” to any conservative primary challenger leading into the 2026 midterm elections, and described Greene as “wacky” and a “lunatic,” saying all she does is “complain.”
Why It Matters
The break between Trump and Greene marks a rare and significant fissure within the MAGA movement, where loyalty to Trump has long been the defining currency. Greene has served as one of Trump’s most influential surrogates, amplifying his message across the hard-right base and shaping grassroots activism.
Their split could weaken Trump’s hold on a key faction of supporters, scramble alliances ahead of 2026, and signal deeper ideological and strategic disagreements inside the Republican Party.
What To Know
Several prominent MAGA-aligned voices quickly backed Trump’s decision to break with Greene.
Conservative commentator Caturd declared, “I’ll support any primary opponent of Marjorie Taylor Greene. Just like Trump, I’m sick of hearing her bullshit every day.”
Activist Laura Loomer celebrated the move, writing that “President Trump calls for Marjorie Traitor Greene to be primaried. He said he will endorse a challenger to MTG, and says she has become a ‘ranting lunatic’. Should I move to Georgia?” She added, “I told you all this was coming… @mtgreenee is so cooked.”
Right-wing host Mark Levin also endorsed Trump’s break, saying, “Everyone’s on to Marjorie Traitor GreenE. POTUS just posted he’s withdrawing his endorsement and plans to support a primary challenger. (See below.) I agree 100%. She’s nuts.”

But not all MAGA supporters are so supportive of Trump’s approach. Right-wing commentator Evan Kilgore wrote on X: “I stand with Thomas Massie and Marjorie Taylor Greene. Who else?” His post referenced Trump’s efforts to unseat Greene and Massie in the 2026 midterms, both of whom have been critical of him.
Greene, once one of Trump’s most loyal allies in the House, has recently broken with the administration and clashed with GOP colleagues on a series of high-profile issues.
The public rift centers on issues of government transparency in the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files, foreign versus domestic policy focus and the broader strategic direction of the GOP as the 2026 midterm elections approach.
It escalated after Greene criticized Trump’s stance on efforts to release files related to the disgraced financier, who died in federal custody in 2019. Greene has backed a bipartisan House effort to force disclosure of the remaining records, arguing the victims deserve clarity. “I think it’s a huge miscalculation, and I truly just stand with the women,” she told CBS Mornings, saying they should be the focus of the fight.
Trump fired back on Truth Social, dismissing renewed attention to the case as “the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax” and claiming Democrats were reviving it to distract from their handling of the shutdown and other issues. “Only a very bad, or stupid, Republican would fall into that trap,” he wrote.
He later said the Justice Department, under Attorney General Pam Bondi, would launch an investigation into Epstein’s alleged ties to prominent Democrats. Greene was among only four Republicans who sided with Democrats on Wednesday to advance a petition aimed at forcing a vote to unveil the full Justice Department files on Epstein.
Greene has also broken with Trump on other issues recently. She publicly criticized Trump’s plan to introduce 50-year mortgages as a way to lower monthly payments for homebuyers. “I don’t like 50-year mortgages as the solution to the housing affordability crisis,” Greene wrote on X.
Meanwhile, she recently described his tariff strategy as unevenly executed and urged him to shift attention away from overseas flashpoints and back to problems at home. She has also pushed back on his claim that inflation has eased and has pressed Republicans to present a concrete plan on rising healthcare expenses.
Earlier this year, she became the first GOP member of Congress to characterize the situation in Gaza as genocide.
Greene responded to Trump’s remarks on Friday, writing: “President Trump just attacked me and lied about me.” She added that the president is “coming after” her in an attempt to “make an example to scare all the other Republicans before next weeks vote to release the Epstein files.”
What People Are Saying
Marjorie Taylor Greene said on X: “President Trump just attacked me and lied about me. I haven’t called him at all, but I did send these text messages today. Apparently this is what sent him over the edge. The Epstein files. And of course he’s coming after me hard to make an example to scare all the other Republicans before next weeks vote to release the Epstein files.
“It’s astonishing really how hard he’s fighting to stop the Epstein files from coming out that he actually goes to this level. But really most Americans wish he would fight this hard to help the forgotten men and women of America who are fed up with foreign wars and foreign causes, are going broke trying to feed their families, and are losing hope of ever achieving the American dream.
“That’s what I voted for. I have supported President Trump with too much of my precious time, too much of my own money, and fought harder for him even when almost all other Republicans turned their back and denounced him. But I don’t worship or serve Donald Trump.
“I worship God, Jesus is my savior, and I serve my district GA14 and the American people. I remain the same today as I’ve always been and I will continue to pray this administration will be successful because the American people desperately deserve what they voted for. For me, I remain America First and America Only!!!”
Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social: “I am withdrawing my support and Endorsement of ‘Congresswoman’ Marjorie Taylor Greene, of the Great State of Georgia. Over the past few weeks, despite my creating Record Achievements for our Country including, a Total and Complete Victory on the Shutdown, Closed Borders, Low Taxes, No Men in Women’s Sports or Transgender for Everyone, ending DEI, stopping Biden’s Record Setting Inflation, Biggest Regulation Cuts in History, stopping EIGHT WARS, rebuilding our Military, being RESPECTED by every Country in the World (as opposed to being the laughingstock that we were just 12 months ago!), having Trillions of Dollars (Record Setting!) INVESTED in the U.S.A., and having created the ‘HOTTEST’ Country anywhere in the World from being a DEAD Country just 12 months ago (and so much more!), all I see ‘Wacky’ Marjorie do is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN!”
The president continued: “It seemed to all begin when I sent her a Poll stating that she should not run for Senator, or Governor, she was at 12%, and didn’t have a chance (unless, of course, she had my Endorsement—which she wasn’t about to get!). She has told many people that she is upset that I don’t return her phone calls anymore, but with 219 Congressmen/women, 53 U.S. Senators, 24 Cabinet Members, almost 200 Countries, and an otherwise normal life to lead, I can’t take a ranting Lunatic’s call every day.
“I understand that wonderful, Conservative people are thinking about primarying Marjorie in her District of Georgia, that they too are fed up with her and her antics and, if the right person runs, they will have my Complete and Unyielding Support. She has gone Far Left, even doing The View, with their Low IQ Republican hating Anchors. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
What Happens Next
The House of Representatives is set to vote on legislation requiring the Justice Department to release all Epstein investigation files, a move pushed by Greene and other lawmakers. GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson has pledged to bring the measure to a vote.
