Major College Football Program Fired Head Coach After 0-7 Start
The college football coaching carousel is heating up in October. Numerous teams have had disappointing starts to the season.
No team has had a more disastrous season than Penn State, which started the season No. 2 but has fallen out of the rankings amid a three-game losing streak, causing questions to mount about the future of head coach James Franklin.

The start for Oregon State couldn’t have been worse than the results shown on the field through its first seven games. The Pac-12 program is 0-7 following a 39-14 blowout loss to the Wake Forrest Demon Deacons on Saturday in front of 29,710 fans at Reser Stadium in Corvallis, Oregon.

Per Pete Thamel of ESPN, the Beavers are making a coaching change, firing head coach Trent Bray on Sunday morning.
“Sources: Oregon State has fired Trent Bray after an 0-7 start,” Thamel posted on X.
Oregon State has been outscored 249-124 by opponents this season. The Beavers were blown out 41-7 by rival Oregon on Sept. 20. The Beavers’ best chance to win a game in the early schedule came in a 27-24 loss to Houston in overtime.
Bray, 43, took over as head coach of Oregon State in 2024, following the mass exodus of Pac-12 teams to the Big Ten, ACC and Big 12. Only OSU and Washington State remain in the conference.
Bray went 5-7 with the Beavers last season. He finished with a 5-14 record at Oregon State and 1-0 in Pac-12 play.
Bray had been with the program since he joined the Beavers in 2018 as their linebackers coach. He served as the defensive backs and linebackers coach in 2022-2023.
Bray played as a linebacker for Oregon State from 2002-2005. He rejoined the program in 2012 as a graduate assistant and linebackers coach.
Bray first began coaching Arizona State as a graduate assistant in 2008. He was a linebackers coach for the California Redwoods in 2009. He served as the linebackers coach of Nebraska from 2015 to 2017.
Oregon State has five more games remaining in the regular season, but will not be bowl eligible after the 0-7 start.
