Mariners Linked To Trade For Phillies’ Projected $142 Million Alec Bohm

The Philadelphia Phillies kicked off the offseason with rumors circling that they could be open to trading All-Stars Nick Castellanos and Alec Bohm. Out of the two, Bohm is a much bigger trade piece given his incredible season in 2024.
Bohm, 28, slashed .280/.332/.448 with 15 home runs, 44 doubles, and 97 RBIs in 2024. He posted a 3.0 WAR with a 117 OPS+. Spotrac projects Bohm to sign a seven-year, $142 million contract when he hits free agency after the 2026 season.
As for teams that would fit, there are plenty of suitors that need a star third baseman. The New York Yankees, Houston Astros, New York Mets, and plenty of others come to mind.
ESPN’s David Schoenfield suggested that the Phillies should deal their All-Star third baseman to the Seattle Mariners, who desperately need offensive help.

“Seattle’s third basemen — primarily Josh Rojas — hit .213 with 12 home runs and 49 RBIs, and Rojas was then non-tendered, leaving a hole for the Mariners to fill,” Schoenfield wrote. “They reportedly have about $16 million in payroll room to fill third base, second base (they didn’t pick up Jorge Polanco’s option), maybe DH, and perhaps a reliever or two. Bohm will make about $8 million in arbitration, and his contact ability would be a nice addition for a team that led the majors in strikeouts.”
This idea makes sense for both sides. Schoenfield goes on to mention that Seattle could send Luis Castillo to Philadelphia in the deal, which would round out the Phillies’ rotation with a fifth star.
As for the Mariners, no team in baseball needs offense as badly as they do. Adding a low risk bat like Bohm would make plenty of sense and they could do it without diving too deep into their own prospect pool.
