Mariners Listed as ‘Landing Spot’ for Problematic Diamondbacks Second Baseman

The Seattle Mariners front office reinforced its willingness to be aggressive at this season’s MLB trade deadline.
Seattle acquired both Josh Naylor and Eugenio Suarez from the Arizona Diamondbacks and is in a position to make the postseason because of it.
The aggressiveness from Seattle could be a reason that it has been named as one of the five best landing spots for an unlikely trade candidate.

Superstar second baseman Ketel Marte has emerged as a surprise offseason trade candidate after a bombshell report from Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic.
Piecoro reported that Marte’s teammates were growing frustrated with his frequency to ask for days off. In the report, it was said that many of Marte’s teammates believe his disappearance from the team prior to the All-Star break ultimately led to the second half fire sale.
Because of that, it has become more likely that Arizona may look to rid itself of a bad locker room presence and trade Marte in the offseason and according to Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer, Seattle is one of the top landing spots.
Rymer has proposed a trade between the two teams that would send Marte to Seattle in exchange for right-handed pitcher Logan Gilbert, second baseman Cole Young and catching prospect Harry Ford.
Rymer notes that Seattle may be reluctant to agree to the proposed deal due to Young being an up-and-coming second baseman. He also notes Mariners president Jerry Dipoto does not like subtracting from his starting rotation.
Arizona may very well be able to patch the relationship with Marte, and he may stay with the team through his current contract that ends after the 2031 season. If he is put on the trade block, though, Seattle certainly has the assets to pull off another trade with the Diamondbacks.
