The Dallas Mavericks are off to a rough 4-11 start heading into Wednesday night’s matchup against the New York Knicks, and they’ve already made some major changes.
Most notably, they fired general manager Nico Harrison, who played a huge role in the shocking Luka Doncic trade last February before the NBA deadline. So far, that move has looked like a disaster, especially with how Doncic has opened the season for the Lakers—leading the league in scoring and helping L.A. jump out to an 11-4 record.
With Harrison now out, it looks like longtime minority owner Mark Cuban—who sold a large chunk of his stake to the Adelson family in 2023—is stepping back into a more hands-on role. On Wednesday, he addressed the trade rumors swirling around forward Anthony Davis, who came to Dallas in the Doncic deal.
According to Joe Vardon of The Athletic, Cuban made it clear in an email that the Mavericks have no intention of trading Davis, saying, “We won’t. We want to try to win.”

Mark Cuban’s main goal in becoming more involved with the team again—much like he was before 2023—is simple: he wants to help bring another championship back to Dallas, something the franchise hasn’t accomplished since 2011.
Cuban said he’s committed to supporting governor Patrick Dumont in any way he can, noting, “I’m here to help him where I can.”
Anthony Davis, 32, could be an important piece of that puzzle. However, his health has been in question since arriving in Dallas last season. He hasn’t played since Oct. 29 due to a calf strain, and the Mavericks have been cautious not to risk further injury. Without him, the team has continued to struggle early in the year.
That said, his return is on the horizon, and if Cuban’s statement holds true, it appears Davis will be staying in Dallas for the foreseeable future.
