Marlins Steal Managerial Hire From World Series Champion Dodgers
Toward the end of the 2024 MLB season, the Miami Marlins and manager Skip Schumaker announced the two parties would agree to mutually part ways at the conclusion of the season.
It didn’t come as a surprise, though, as many around baseball expected Schumaker to pursue a better job with a more competitive team. The Marlins dealt away just about all of their proven big-league talent, so holding onto a former National League Manager of the Year didn’t make much sense either.
As the offseason began, the Marlins found themselves connected to multiple different proven leaders around baseball to fill their managerial hole. Miami has officially hired its next manager and he couldn’t be coming from a better place.

ESPN’s Alden González reported Sunday the Marlins are hiring Los Angeles Dodgers first base coach Clayton McCullough as their new manager.
“McCullough, who has spent the last four seasons on Dave Roberts’ staff in LA, succeeds Skip Schumaker in Miami,” González wrote in a post to Twitter/X Sunday evening.
McCullough, 44, spent seven years managing in the lower levels of affiliate ball. He posted a 402-367 career record managing in the Toronto Blue Jays system. He was elevated to the Dodgers’ big league staff in 2021 and has coached the last four seasons under Dave Roberts in Los Angeles.
The Marlins couldn’t have chosen their new manager from a better place. The Dodgers dominated their way to the World Series title this season.
