Masters 2025: The 5 PGA Tour Stars to Watch Out For at Augusta
PGA Tour players will make up the vast majority at next week’s Masters Tournament. The American-based circuit will also provide more than a few of the main favorites for the title, although it is fair to say that not all of them.
Several names stand out both for their results in the current season and for the level they have shown in previous editions of the event.
Let’s take a look at five of the most relevant PGA Tour pros to keep an eye on at Augusta National.
1. Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy is on a voracious quest for his first Masters title. His level in 2025 has been exceptional, with two wins (including The PLAYERS Championship), another top 5 and two other top 20s in five PGA Tour events. He also has a top 5 at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour.
The Northern Irishman has done well at Augusta National during his career despite not winning yet, with seven top 10s in 16 appearances. However, he has famously come close to victory only to falter at the end, as he did in 2011 when he squandered a 54-hole lead to finish T15.
Winning the Masters would be career-defining for McIlroy, as he would become only the sixth player in the modern era and seventh all-time to win a career Golf Grand Slam.

2: Scottie Scheffler
Scottie Scheffler has won two of the last three Masters Tournaments and finished in the top 10 in the one he didn’t win (2023). Those are more than enough credentials to make him one of the favorites to win the title.
The World No. 1 has had a more than solid start to the 2025 PGA Tour season. He hasn’t won, but has finished in the top 25 in all six tournaments he’s played, including three top 10s. He comes to Augusta National fresh off a tie for second at the Houston Open.
3: Collin Morikawa
Collin Morikawa has been flirting with a big finish for months, both in major championships and on the PGA Tour. He last won at the 2023 ZOZO Championship, but since then he has finished second four times and third once.
That third place came precisely at the 2024 Masters Tournament, where he was one of the main contenders until Scheffler pulled away from the field on Sunday. It was his third consecutive top-10 finish at Augusta National.
Two of his runner-up finishes have come in the current season, in which he has played five tournaments and finished in the top 17.
4: Ludvig Aberg
Ludvig Aberg wowed the golf world long before he turned pro in mid-2023. So it wasn’t a shocker that he made his major championship debut with a runner-up finish at the 2024 Masters.
He has had ups and downs this season. Aberg won the Genesis Invitational, but missed the cut at The PLAYERS Championship and the Valero Texas Open.
But the level of talent this youngster brings to the course, he is always a threat and someone to watch.
5: Shane Lowry
The final PGA Tour pro to keep your eyes on this week is Shane Lowry.
Lowry has had a solid 2025 season that includes three top 10s in seven tournaments played. His results include a tie for second at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, where he finished two shots behind his friend Rory McIlroy.
The Irishman’s results at Augusta National have been solid, though not extraordinary, beyond his third-place finish in 2022. However, he has made the cut in the last five editions, with three top-25 finishes in addition to the aforementioned third place.
Don’t count out the luck of the Irish!
