Mavericks’ Cooper Flagg Accomplished Something No One in NBA History Ever Has

Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg is having one heck of a rookie season.

The 19-year-old Duke alum leads all rookies in scoring (20.3 points per game), and he ranks second in rebounding (4.5 per game), seventh in rebounding (6.6 per game), steals (1.2 per game), and blocks (0.9 per game).

Flagg has also achieved quite a few NBA milestones as well including:

  • Becoming the second-youngest player in NBA history (19 years, 74 days) to score 1,000 points, right behind LeBron James’ record (19 years, 41 days)
  • Becoming the ninth player in NBA history to reach 1,000 points, 300 rebounds, and 200 assists in his first 50 games
  • Becoming the youngest player to score 40 or more points in a game, surpassing James’ previous record
  • Becoming the second player in NBA history to score 20 points with zero turnovers
  • Becoming the first rookie since Michael Jordan to record 30 or more points and five or more rebounds in four straight games
  • Scoring the most points in a game by a teenager (49 points)

And while Flagg’s rookie resume was already impressive, he added another historic feat to it in Friday’s 138-127 loss to the Orlando Magic.

Flagg totaled 51 points, six rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block, accomplishing something no one else in NBA history ever had.

“51 POINTS FOR COOPER FLAGG. FIRST TEENAGER TO SCORE 50 IN AN NBA GAME 🚨,” the NBA announced on X.

Flagg is just the ninth rookie ever to hit the 50-point plateau, and the first to accomplish the feat since Brandon Jennings scored 55 points back in 2009, according to ESPN Research.

Flagg’s 51-point outing is a career-high, and it marks the third time he scored 40 or more points this season, and the eighth time he’s scored 30 or more points.
