Many were shocked when the trade that sent star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders to the Baltimore Ravens fell through just days after it was announced.
The Ravens claim Crosby failed his physical, which is why the team declined to proceed with the trade that would cost them two first-round picks.
However, most believe Baltimore simply got cold feet and was looking for a way out of the deal. And the story Crosby told on his latest podcast, “The Rush with Maxx Crosby,” that’s exactly how it sounds.
“I go into the room, they sit me down on the couch and he’s like, ‘Man, I don’t know how to say this, but one of our doctors has concerns with the results, with your knee. Some of them are concerned about the future. … We really want you and this is what it is, but we’re going to have to get more and more opinions,’” Crosby stated.
“One of the Ravens guys called me and he’s like,’ Yo, we’re trying to figure this out. We’re going to get this done. Don’t worry.’ Like five minutes later, CJ calls me, he’s like, ‘They’re backing out.’ I’m frozen, I’m like, ‘Holy [expletive], what the [expletive]?’ I’m livid, confused, the whole nine, all in one.”

But that wasn’t even the strange part of Crosby’s story.
The 28-year-old defensive end divulged that after taking a five-hour flight to D.C., he had to drive another two hours to Baltimore to meet the team. Once Crosby was at the facility, he didn’t even see general manager Eric DeCosta despite being there for five hours, and he recalled head coach Jesse Minter being standoffish toward him.
“At the end, they’re like, yeah, I’ll take you up,” Crosby continued. “Joe was like, I’ll take you up, you go see the head coach, whatever, just before you leave. I was like, ‘Hell yeah.’ I want to say what’s up to him. I went back up, and I dapped him up, and I could just tell, like, the energy was a little bit off.
“… And that was the first time I seen him. Like, I’m so excited, like, fired up, you know what I mean? Like, this is new opportunity, whatever. And you need to just tell the energy was off. I dapped him up, he had, like, a blank face. And I’m like ‘Okay,’ I’m not thinking anything of it, maybe it’s just different.”
After hearing Crosby’s recollection of events, the failed Raiders-Ravens trade likely makes a bit more sense.
The day after the Raiders announced the trade was off, the Ravens signed defensive end Trey Hendrickson to a four-year, $112 million contract.
