Mecha Break Servers Buckle as Beta Draws Massive Player Count
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Mecha Break, the upcoming mecha shooter from Amazing Seasun Games, is looking more and more like it could be a massive success for the Chinese developer — but that comes with some downsides. The latest beta test for the game, which began on the previous weekend, has drawn over 317,000 concurrent users (CCU) at its peak so far. That’s a substantial number for any test and seems to be more than Amazing Seasun expected.
The Mecha Break servers completely failed to withstand the onslaught of testers, crashing under the pressure of players trying to log on and find matches, especially in China. Players are taking out their frustrations with the issues on the Steam reviews for the Mecha Break demo, flooding it with negative ratings and criticizing the servers. It’s not the most rational criticism to levy against the studio at this point in time, though, as one of this beta’s purposes is to act as a server stress test.

Amazing Seasun Games
Amazing Seasun will certainly take the lesson learned from the experience to heart and plan for more capacity when the game actually launches later this year, but for the moment these issues are well within expectations.
Mecha Break’s previous test on Steam hit around 50,000 CCU, so there has been a substantial growth of interest in the game in the meantime.
Last year, Marvel Rivals managed to hit a peak of above 50,000 CCU during its closed playtest on Steam and managed to thrive afterwards, reaching over 40 million players since then. Since the nature of both tests are very different, they are not comparable without issues, but the CCU counts go to show that there seems to be enormous potential in the mecha shooter. This might be yet another Chinese Steam hit in the making following 2024’s hero shooter and action RPG Black Myth Wukong.
You can participate in the Mecha Break beta test for free via Steam.
