Mets Get Bad News on $34 Million Pitcher Frankie Montas
🎙️ Voice is AI-generated. Inconsistencies may occur.
If the New York Mets reach their goal of winning the 2025 World Series, they will do so in spite of — not because of — their $34 million investment in veteran right-hander Frankie Montas.
Same goes for 2026.
Montas, 32, has a tear in the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, an injury that will likely require season-ending surgery and knock Montas out for all of next year as well.

Montas had the right to opt out of the final year of his two-year contract. Now, the Mets will almost certainly be on the hook for their full $34 million investment in Montas.

The veteran right-hander had a 6.28 ERA in nine games with the Mets this season. He was removed from the starting rotation after throwing just 38.2 innings in his first season in Queens.
