Mets Quietly Sign 6-Year Veteran Pitcher To One-Year Deal: Report
The New York Mets came into this season as one of the top teams in the league after signing Juan Soto to a monumental contract. The Mets also added Pete Alonso and a few pitchers in the offseason before swinging a few trades at the trade deadline to further add to their roster.
But the Mets missed out on the postseason, and the front office is seemingly looking to make some huge additions in the coming offseason to make sure this level of disappointment doesn’t happen again.
While the Mets are likely pursuing a reunion with Pete Alonso alongside other huge deals, they quietly re-signed a veteran pitcher to start their winter.

The Mets recently re-signed pitcher Richard Lovelady to a one-year deal, MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo reported Thursday. Lovelady pitched for the Mets in 2025, throwing 10 innings and holding a 6.30 ERA. Lovelady has never stuck around with the same team for long, especially over the last few seasons, but the Mets look to bring him back for next season in an attempt to build their bullpen.
The Mets are going to need to make more moves in the coming months. Adding Lovelady to the big league roster is a small move, but it’s only going to be a small piece of the puzzle for the Mets this winter.
