Mets Reliever Shows Up To Camp Toting Yankees Bag
The New York Mets signed Luke Weaver and Devin Williams away from the New York Yankees this offseason, and Weaver arrived at Port St. Lucie carrying a Yankees bag.
Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to camp on Wednesday, with full-squad workouts slated to start next Monday. Weaver joined the Yankees in 2023 and signed a two-year, $22 million deal with the Mets this offseason. Showing up for spring training with your old team’s bag is not a great look, but especially when that team is your new team’s crosstown rival.
Even though Weaver will pitch on the other side of the Subway Series now, he seems to have ended things with the Yankees on good terms. Earlier this offseason, he confirmed they never made him an offer, but he still has appreciation for his time with the Yankees.

“They didn’t have an official offer or anything like that,” Weaver said on “Foul Territory.” ” … I really loved and valued every single person in that clubhouse. I would’ve loved to continue and for things to roll, but we know there’s always a chapter that ends and somewhere else you have to pick up. I got all love for those guys. I hope they do really well and achieve all they want. There’s no bad blood on my end.”
Weaver had a 3.22 ERA in 129 games for the Yankees. He served multiple roles out of the bullpen and became a key player for Aaron Boone. Perhaps, he will load up on Mets gear now that he is in Florida for spring training.
