Mets Urged to Go After Yankees Slugger in Free Agency for 2nd Straight Season
🎙️ Voice is AI-generated. Inconsistencies may occur.
The New York Mets signed Juan Soto from the New York Yankees last offseason. With Trent Grisham slated to open the market this year, could the Mets see him as a fit?
The Mets traded for Cedric Mullins at the trade deadline. He has not been great and will also be a free agent after the year ends. Grisham is having a career year and could be an everyday player for the Mets. FanSided’s Jake Elman urged the Mets to go after Grisham this offseason.
“If it’s not clear already, we’re very skeptical that Grisham will return to the Yankees next season,” wrote Elman. “However, we won’t be surprised if he stays in New York City, especially given how much sense he makes for the Mets. Signing Grisham allows the Mets to keep Brandon Nimmo in left field and erase any conversations about moving Juan Soto to center field. Grisham is a Gold Glove-winning center fielder who’d immediately improve the Mets’ lineup and outfield.”

Grisham has an .818 OPS through 127 games. He also has a career high of 30 home runs. His defense has always been stellar, but what he has done with the bat this season is unexpected.
The Yankees may want to keep Grisham, but their priority will likely be Cody Bellinger this offseason. Bellinger is reportedly expected to opt out of his contract, and the Yankees are reportedly interested in keeping him in the Bronx. In addition to the Yankees making Bellinger a priority, top prospect Spencer Jones could also factor into the Yankees letting Grisham walk.
