Michael Hermosillo Retires, Suddenly Returns as Dodgers Coach
Three years after his final Grapefruit League game with the New York Yankees, Michael Hermosillo is happy to be headed back to spring training in uniform — this time, as a coach.
Hermosillo, 31, was announced Thursday as the new outfield/baserunning coach for the Great Lakes Loons, the Dodgers’ Class-A affiliate in the Midwest League.

Hermosillo confirmed to Newsweek Sports that it’s his first job in affiliated baseball since 2023, when he played 66 games for the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate, and his first since retiring as a player.

Hermosillo played 103 games in the major leagues over parts of five seasons — 56 with the Los Angeles Angels (2018-20) and 47 with the Chicago Cubs (2021-22).
The Mesa, Arizona native was originally a 28th-round draft pick by the Angels in 2013. He spent 10 seasons in the minors and finished his playing career in the Mexican Winter League with 11 games for Obregon in the 2023-24 season.
